What are Propel Replays rate limits and what happens if I hit them?

TL;DR: Propel Replays applies rate limits per shop to keep the service stable for all merchants. If your shop sends recording data faster than your plan’s limit allows, recording pauses for 10 minutes, you’ll get an email, and then recording resumes automatically.

Propel Replays processes recording data from thousands of shops simultaneously. Without per-shop limits, a small number of high-traffic stores could consume most of the processing capacity — slowing recordings for everyone. Rate limits keep service predictable for every merchant.

What happens when your shop exceeds its limit

Section titled “What happens when your shop exceeds its limit”

Three things, in order:

  1. Recording pauses for 10 minutes. Sessions that arrive during that window aren’t recorded.
  2. We email the contact address on file so you know what happened.
  3. Recording resumes automatically after 10 minutes — no action required on your side.

Higher plans have higher rate limits. If you’re hitting the cap regularly — especially during sales, ad pushes, or traffic peaks — upgrading lets your shop record more sessions concurrently without pausing.

A few things can help before (or in addition to) upgrading:

  • Confirm the traffic is real. Bot and click-fraud spikes can push you past the limit without producing useful replays. See Are my visitors bots? for how to check.
  • Identify the source of the peaks. Burst traffic from a single Meta ad campaign or scheduled push can spike you above the limit briefly even if your overall daily volume is moderate.
  • Email support@propelcommerce.io if you want help diagnosing the pattern.
